Mission 4A - Mudra She Wrote

The desk does not appear to have any obvious alarms in it, but it is locked. Now that she is behind the desk and can see what's back there, Emiko notices a small wheeled suitcase.

Emiko checks the case for traps and, if it looks safe, will open it.

The suitcase does not appear trapped. It contains a couple of text books, some note books, blank final exams and some assorted writing implements/stationary.

Kitaro stands by the door using his large ears to hear if anyone is approaching.

Emiko spends some time working on the lock to the desk drawer and eventually opens it with a satisfying snick. Inside the drawer, she finds a commlink, some assorted stationary and a collection of security badges on a lanyard, including one for the research facility.

During that time Kitaro's spell solidifies, no longer requiring him to maintain it. Listening carefully by the door, he hears footsteps outside, but it is a public space, so that is to be expected. No one knocks on the door or attempts to open it.

Emiko tries to remember how everything looks in the drawer before she touches anything. She then takes the research facility badge, makes a copy, then puts it back exactly as she found it.

Emiko eyes the commlink and asks Kitaro if Dr. Emoto is coming.

Short of opening the door, Kitaro has no way of knowing if the professor is coming or not, but he at least does not hear steps approaching.

Kitaro waits  until there is no one directly in front of the door, grabs his commlink, steps outside and begins to make a pretend call.

"Hello darling ... yes of course ... really? ... hahahahaha!"

While doing this he looks down the hallway to watch if he sees the doctor approaching.

Emiko picks up the commlink and tries to access the information, looking for anything about the Yakuza building.

Kitaro opens the door to find himself staring down the barrel of a gun.

((Kitaro give me initiative, your first action and any rolls you need to do for that.
Emiko, you don't know this is happening yet, but give me your hacking on the fly roll in the mean time))

Kitaro let's out a high pitch squeel and throws his hands up in the air.

"Please don't shoot me!"

Kitaro doesn't manage to get the words out of his mouth quick enough as a beam of red light surges right at his head. He just barely moves aside, the beam leaving a scorched line across his cheek, but otherwise causing no lasting damage. The same can not be said for the wall behind him which has a burning hole going through it. Once Kitaro holds his hands up and pleads not to be shot, his focus moves away from the gun and to Dr Emoto, who does not appear amused.

"Get in the office," she orders, "And if I see a hint of magic coming out of you, the next shot goes between your eyes."

Kitaro falls to the ground, grabs his face and screams.

"I'm hit! she shot me! Whyyyyyyyy!"

Emiko quickly puts the commlink back and closes the drawer. She then runs to the door, opens it, and yells, "help! Please don't shoot me!"

Unamused by all the noise, Dr Emoto shoots at Emiko. The shot scorches the upper tip of her ear. Though the shot doesn't hurt her seriously, she gets the impression that this was purposeful. Despite killing neither of you with either of her shots, she seems like she most certainly could have if she intended to. She says, "Shut your traps and get in the office or I will shoot first and ask questions never. This is the last time I'm telling you."

Emiko rubs the stinging on her ear and then leans down to help Kitaro up. She says to Dr. Emoto, "ok, ok, but so you know, you're getting a bad professor review for that" and heads back into the room for one of the chairs to sit in.

With one hand on the scratch on his cheeck and the other one on Emiko's shoulder, Kitaro wobble's inside.

"What's going on miss Emiko. Why is the doctor shooting at us?"

Emiko cringes at hearing her name spoken out loud. She also prepares her voice modulator to memorize Dr. Emoto's voice, tone, and accent.

Emiko keeps her hands up in front of her. Her mind races and conflicting ideas battle for supremacy. She says to Dr. Emoto, "this just got way out of hand. We were hired by some wealthy parents of a student of yours to get a hold of an upcoming exam. We are both unarmed and have no intentions of doing anything harmful."

Emiko's tongue begins to hurt and memories of torture linger in the back of her mind.

Kitaro puts his hands in front of him, palms towards the doctor and picks up on Emiko's story.

"We're so sorry, we're broke you see and this seemed like a quick way to make some money. It would have put bread on the table for a couple of weeks. We weren't going to hurt anyone I promise!"

With one hand, Kitaro slowly reaches for his commlink with a fake SIN that has the name Haruto Sato on it.

"Ofcourse Dr Emoto, right away Dr Emoto"

He keeps the other hand in front of him with the palm towards Dr Emoto.

Emiko follows Kitaro and slowly moves to show her SIN to Dr. Emoto.
