| 7/23 Three weeks have passed since your last job and with rent looming soon, it would be a good idea to get another pay day. Tensions throughout the city have been high as Fire Force soldiers patrol the streets, searching for ghouls. They rarely find any, but whenever they do, the ghouls and whatever building they were found in is usually burnt to the ground. People are beginning to grow concerned that a neighbor may make a false report that might result in a visit from the Fire Force. But none of that is your problem right now. It's a cold and rainy fall evening when Emiko meets Sam in one of the small bedrooms of the community center to spitball ideas for the coming heist. Eula is present and currently powered down, her sandwich making capabilities currently unneeded. Sam has done some preliminary research on the building, but the real stuff will require either a physical stakeout, hopping into the matrix and seeing if they can find anything or some other kind of legwork. What Sam has managed to dig up so far is this: - Sexbots are being developed and manufactured in a small factory somewhere in the Kojou district. This is unsurprising as the district almost completely consists of factories. The sexbots are exclusively used at brothels. - The factory is owned by the Yamaguchi clan, which also happens to be the same Yakuza clan who hired you for your last job. They are also the most powerful of the Yakuza clans. The brothels that are receiving the sexbots are also run by the Yamaguchi. - Somewhere within the factory is a research lab where advanced pilot chips are being developed. It seems like it's mostly the work of a single person, but Sam hasn't figured out who that person is. It isn't much to go on, but it's a start... |  |

 | There is not much public information about the factory available. It has no public matrix site to browse and does not appear to be particularly welcoming of factory tours. The factory does have a private host, but short of hacking into it, it is not going to provide much information. The only real publicly available information on the factory is it's location. A quick look at a mapping site provides the general dimensions of the building as well as an external image of it. As far as factories go, it is a relatively small one with two floors visible above ground. The building itself is roughly 2500 square meters. |

| Emiko only finds an anonymous blog of someone bragging that they are making cutting edge pilot systems. Coincidentally this is the exact same blog that Sam found which caught him on to this factory's existence. If the blog can be believed, the blogger is some world class wiz getting paid top nuyen to develop the chips. Whoever the person is, they certainly do not seem to lack in pride. From what the blogger says, there is no one else but the blogger who has the know-how to make these chips. Sam meanwhile has no problem finding a love hotel in the area. It's a quiet district where such facilities are in demand by workers who need a discreet place to have affairs. Given that the clientele is usually not particularly concerned with the matrix during their brief stay, none of the facilities that Sam locates has particularly high speed matrix connections. Out of curiosity, he looks for love hotels that DO have such connections and finds them in some of the upper districts such as the Kinza district. The noise from distance should be minimal and his datajack is designed to smooth out the signal anyway. |  |

"Maybe we should wait until night. The night matrix security might be lighter."
In the meantime, while they wait for the potential night shift, Sam has Eula make them some macaroni and cheese. She is able to manage it, but it is sub-par macaroni and cheese. Not at all the quality of her sandwiches. Sam can't wait to get her this new pilot.
Later, on the way, they stop by a Duane Reade and Sam picks up some slap patches.

 | Sam picks up a few basic supplies, primarily various different slap patches. The quality of the patches is basic but anything better is unavailable over the counter and isn't generally kept in stock. The final price comes out to 1,560 nuyen. ((the 2 tranq and 4 stim patches are both rating 4. Trauma doesn't have a rating.)) Emiko explains her idea of going to one of the brothels to look for clues. While neither Emiko nor Sam have any particular experience with brothels, they've at least heard that the ones that cater to men do not allow women in them. In fact, even most basic stores that sell pornography in them forbid women from entry. The primary reason being the proprietors do not want to risk the trouble that tends to happen if/when their customers' wives happen to come to to the business looking for their husbands... |

| With their purchases complete, Emiko and Sam make their way for the Kinza district love hotel which is lovingly called "Pink Mochi". The pair walk in and find that most of the rooms are taken. The only one that isn't is the "Little Sailor room". The picture on the wall shows a nautical themed room with a tacky cartoon sailor boy featured just about everywhere. Not being particularly picky on the matter, they walk to the room and open the door, which is unlocked. Once they close the door, it automatically locks behind them, only to be opened once the bill is paid (which works out to about 25 nuyen for the first two hours and then 8 nuyen for each hour after that, or 40 bucks for the whole night if you come after 11). The room itself is even sillier than the picture in the hall suggested. The "little sailor" is literally everywhere. On the bed, the walls, in the bath tub, everywhere. A pair of matching male and female sailors' costumes hang from a hanger near the door, for those who are interested in a little cosplay. The trideo features the news, some games, and about 10 channels of censored pornography. A karaoke system is also hooked up to it. In one corner of the room is a small minifridge stocked with some assorted alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages as well as a handful of adult toys, each in individual compartments that automatically charge to the room when opened. A phone on the coffee table sits next to a catalog of services that one can call the front desk for, including food, extra costumes or games, as well as assorted toiletries and contraceptives, all of course for a small fee. It is actually quite spacious as far as hotel rooms are concerned. The bathroom alone is about as large as an average bedroom and features a tub large enough for two or three as well as an integrated steam room and trideo system. Several brands of soaps and shampoos are also sitting near the bath in easy pump bottles. |  |

| Sam's examination of the drones reveals them to be simple dragonflies. Small and relatively harmless on their own, but potentially deadly when combined into a swarm. They are primarily designed to take apart other drones, but the blades that let them disassemble drones are equally capable of disassembling people. He finds that the alarms in the system seem to be triggered by motion sensors. Based on his knowledge of corporate security, given the lack of cameras inside, Sam figures there is something to be seen inside that the owners really don't want footage of leaking out, as it is generally somewhat unusual to skimp on cameras for security. That seems to make sense given the potential power of the pilot chips. Development footage would be wanted by just about anyone with even a passing interest in drones, not the least of which being the military. It is possible that one could make use of the drones to get a peek inside, but if they start getting directed in ways that they should not be directed, it may raise suspicion. Emiko meanwhile barely manages to access the files and begins downloading them. It does not take long as the list of employees seems to be extremely small for a factory: only 8.
