Mission 4A - Mudra She Wrote

Emiko checks to see how many ninjas and samurai are near to where she and Sam are and if they are being watched.

Emiko takes a good look at the ninjas and samurai. They appear to be inspecting every icon in the area. Sam and Emiko remain hidden for now. A quick analysis of the icons reveals the ninjas to be patrol IC, a type of automated search system designed to find any trouble before it starts. Their only function is to find and report trouble so other more dangerous IC can automatically come in and respond to the trouble.

The samurai appears to be a spider, a sort of white hat hacker whose job it is to protect the system. While he is a significant danger himself, spiders have full control of the system and can send out other IC to help him respond to threats.


Meanwhile Sam quietly takes a look for any nodes having to deal with building security. He finds one linked to cameras, one linked to sensors, and another linked to the building's mag locks. Each appears to be a locked wooden chest.

She also checks the files to get information on anyone that has clearance to be in the building.

Sam has little trouble getting a mark on the camera chest. Opening it up, he reveals several feeds that give him a general layout of the building. There are a total of 6 floors, including a basement level. Their contents appears to be:
Basement - a parking garage and loading bay
Floor 1 - security check in, a small cafeteria and rec area
Floor 2 - weapons development lab, several testing facilities, an armory and a guard station
Floor 3 - assorted private offices
Floor 4 - Spell research, summoning research, artifact research, an obviously warded vault and a guard station
Floor 5 - A lush garden


Meanwhile Emiko searches about for the the personnel database. She finds it with ease, but has a bit of difficulty getting into it. Luckily she manages to find a rather silly exploit that gives her basic read access to it, which is all she really needs.

Office hours appear to be from 8:00 to 21:00, though security is posted 24 hours. There are no particular scheduled events through the day for the office as a whole, but individual workers likely do have specific schedules. Those aren't included in their record files though.

Emiko quickly downloads the personnel records. Including the scientists, guards, office workers, custodial staff and others, there are about 50 people who have official access to the building.

((I'm too impatient to wait for BiBo to answer my questions regarding capabilities of the camera system (i.e. whether the cameras are stationary or not, etc) and how long getting images from all or as many of them as possible would take. So...))

Sam sets Jeeves to capture images from all of the security cameras. Just a still from each camera. And then, if the cameras are not stationary, go back and try to get a full range of the cameras. Ideally, Sam wants to have photos of as much of the building as possible, so that he can reconstruct a map later.

In the meantime, Sam turns his attention to the spider and performs a matrix perception to get a better idea of the spider's gear and running programs.

After about a minute of standing guard next to Sun, Kitaro decides he wants to keep an eye out in a slightly less suspicious way and sits down at a table near the booth that's occupied by Sam and Emiko.
He orders a drink and starts to fiddle with his commlink while looking around a bit.

Sam easily breaks his way into the maglock controls. As he is doing that, he's is spotted by the samurai who sends a message to him:

Emiko does not appear to have attracted any attention as of yet.

Outside of the matrix, Kitaro realizes that the drinks are self serve. He need only go over to the drink machine and get whatever it is he wants.

Sam stops running silent. He instructs Jeeves to download all the maglock information
((I don't know exactly what information would necessarily be contained here. What I'm looking for is A: Different levels of security, B: Any information that Sam would need to make counterfeit badges to access the maglocks, and C: a record of who used which maglocks and when))

Presumably, the spider isn't going to like that. Sam hits his configurator button and here's my initiative roll:

Sun's shoulders shake as he suppresses trying to laugh too hard at his own joke.

"Haha that's a good one mister Dachou"

A smile appears on Kitaro's face.

"Can I get you a drink? I'm buying."

Kitaro walks over to the vending machine to grab a soda.

"Why thank you, mr. Saito. Sure, I'll have some water. As you seem to enjoy my jokes, did you ever hear the one about the human, the elf and the dwarf walking into a bar?"

With a slight hesitation in his voice Kitaro responds.

"I can't say that I have."

He grabs the drinks, walks back to Sun and hands him his water.
