Wujen and Little Dragon Tie the Knot

WuJen goes back to the staircase and continues his search of the house further upstairs.

The top floor appears to be an observatory and a sort of magical lab based on astronomical events. There's a large telescope, an orrery (though it does not appear to represent the same system Wujen is familiar with), tables and shelves with books on space and cosmic alignments. There is are several small chunks of metallic rock sitting on one of the tables.

WuJen checks the rocks against the book he has to see if he can identify them

The rocks are clearly not gems and are not listed in the book. They just look like random, unworked hunks of metal.

WuJen examines the telescope and orrey, with an eye to hidden function, like maybe a connection to the vault downstairs.

The telescope is currently pointed at a distant neighbor's window. It allows a pretty clear view into a bathroom, which is currently unoccupied.

The orrery does not have any apparent function other than those typical of an orrery.

WuJen will cast Analyze Device on the Orrery, to see what he can get.

The orerry has some controls that can be used to calculate where the planets will all be in relation to the sun on a given date. It does not appear to serve any other purpose.

WuJen makes his way back to the second floor, and casts Mind Probe on the sleeping snake woman.

Wujen gets images of the woman's dreams. They are violent and chaotic with a hint of eroticism. Most of the dream involves her wandering lost through a distorted dreamworld version of this city. People are killed in front of her and she is forced to kill often. At one point she is having sex with the ork from downstairs. As she rides atop him, she grabs a nearby stone and beats his skull in with it, spitting on his corpse as she gets off him. Due to the random nature of dreamworld logic, there does not appear to be any reason behind why she did this as there are no events leading up to it.

She appears to have some telekinetic powers which she uses to wreck the downstairs stairway and fill it with debris to keep people out of the upper floors. It does not seem like she would appreciate guests.

WuJen sneaks back off to the basement satisfied he has learned all he can upstairs.

Once down there, he attempts to cast Analyze Device on the vault door in hopes of learning something significant.

Looking at the riddle again, he tries "Love" in elven.

And then "Heart"

Neither trust, love nor heart appear to provide any response by the door. A thorough analysis of the door reveals that it's function is to prevent intruders from accessing the vault beyond. It determines who is an intruder or not based on a password that Wujen has yet to discover. He feels he is greatly on the right track with his first guess, less so with the other two. The door itself is obviously enchanted and essentially impenetrable by any means currently available other than the password. It consists of a warded metal that is ideal for containing unstable or powerful magical artifacts.

Wujen is reassured that he is at least looking for a password. He tries several more:

"Faith....Hope..." and thinking the whole place seems crazy "Distrust...Mistrust...Doubt...Betrayal..."

Wujen feels he's getting further away from the solution.

"umm... Word?"

"or...Transmission"

"Promise..."

WuJen looks in the book for a list of gems with rainbow coloring.

After several more attempts the door slides away. It is pretty easy for Wujen to find a gem of rainbow colors. It is in fact called a rainbow gem. The entry reads:


Rainbow Gem - Also known as a promise gem or a jumpgem, the rainbow gem is highly prized on the Prime physical plane for both it's beautiful rainbow hue and its teleportation abilities. Such gems are never found in the same location (and are believed to teleport away when in close proximity).

They are also capable of being attuned to a single person at a time. This requires a special ritual of bonding to complete. Once a gem has been attuned to someone, it remains attuned to them until it has been used, the ritual caster has died, or roughly a month has passed. While the gem is attuned, the owner need only think of the gem and they are instantly teleported from their current position to that of the gem.

Some minor care must be taken when using a rainbow gem as the current location of the gem may not be a safe location to be teleported to. In addition, if any astral barriers exist between the user and the gem, great harm can come to the user. For shorter distances such as a couple of meters it may only be a broken bone or two, but at greater distances the momentum gained during transport can easily be fatal. Provided there is a clear astral path and the destination is safe, rainbow gems are perfectly safe and reliable.

WuJen takes the Gem, and examines the rest of the room looking for the rumored dangerous magical trinkets left behind by the dead mage

Behind the vault door is a set of shelves with about a dozen different oddities on it, including the rainbow gem. Other oddities include:
- an eyeball
- a knife with grooves carved into the blade
- a golden ring
- a copper piece with unknown writing on it
- a rabbit's foot
- a pair of boots
- an amulet
- three wands
- a staff
- a scroll

The magical energy emanating from the collection is so overwhelming, Wujen can feel it even without his astral perception. He also gets a feeling of deep foreboding.

WuJen takes all of it, though he takes care to individually wrapped each item in scraps of cloth from the room using Magic Fingers so he does not have to actually touch any of it.
