Inside the club

The dwarf gives a weak smirk at Sato and says, "Alright get in there you goof."

The inside of the club is much what you expect the inside of a club to look like. Scantily clad people dance around in artificial fog, laser lights and the occasional strobe. The only difference is that everyone is covered in obvious cyberware and clad in various costumes. This is particularly unusual in this country where modifying oneself with such extensive cyberware is considered taboo. Those who do (either due to injury or work requirement) tend to go subtle, but nothing about anyone here is subtle.

There is a bar on one side of the room, round booths on the other and on the far end are three doors. 2 are clearly labelled for the bathrooms while the third is labelled "Simsense experiences".

Peering through AR, you see everyone has flashy icons that mirror various anime characters both popular and obscure. There are automated sprites that go around interacting with the guests. Apparently tonight is "maid night" as all the sprites appear to be either attractive maids or butlers. One maid approaches the two of you on the matrix and gives a deep bow before saying, "Welcome to the Back Door. How may I help you, most honored guests?"

Sato walks off towards the bar, ignoring Sam.  ((he's afraid their scam may be too obvious if they are together, but makes sure they are connected via comms.))

He pulls up at a prominent corner of the bar and orders one of the house special drinks - nothing too sugary as this may not be the only skin-tight suit he'll have to don in his career.

He surveys the crowd, looking for signs of Rokudenashiko or Akane.  He's purposefully displaying himself, hoping the neon fake tattoo of Rokudenashiko's work will attract one of them to him.

Sam takes in the strobing lights and the pounding music and all of the people and tries hard to hold it together, but it's a lot of stimulus for him, and he can feel a fit coming. He turns his attention to his Towers of Hanoi game

Sam stands there for about a minute, just playing his game and breathing deeply until he feels the fit passing. He's still going to have a hard time blocking out all of the stimuli around him. Sam changes his icon to look like Jeeves. He turns his attention to the AR maid.
"Where would you say is your quietest table?"

If she suggests a table, he will take it. Otherwise, perception test to find a quiet spot

If the maid directs him to a quiet spot, then use that as a general perception roll to see what is going on/if he spots anyone or anything he's looking for.

Given the lasers, fog and neon hair of a lot of the clientele, Sato doesn't really stick out all that much at the bar, all things considered. Given the number of people about, one would have to be pretty much sitting next to him to notice what his "tattoos" actually are. It is equally difficult to spot anyone else in the crowd. (perception check).


Sam speaks with the maid who responds, "You wish to find someplace quiet? The simsense rooms can be as quiet as you wish them to be, my lord. I can direct you to them if you wish. There is a small fee of 5 nuyen per fifteen minutes for their use."

Peering around, Sam doesn't immediately notice either Rokudenashiko nor Akane.

((note there is a composure check which is willpower+charisma, not that I will force you to roll it since you don't actually have a negative quality for it))

"Um," Sam glances around and feels a wave of panic again. "Yes," he says to the maid. "Yes. Get me out of here."

The AR maid bows deeply and says, "Kashikomarimashita. Follow me, honored guest." She then leads Sam around the dance floor and over to the simsense rooms. She finds an empty one and says, "Our rooms have several pre-programmed settings for them. I can help you select one that you will find enjoyable. Will anyone be joining you tonight?"

"I hope not. The empty, quiet, room setting will be fine for now. Thanks."

The maid gives another bow and says, "Very well. Enjoy your stay. If there is anything I can do to help you, please be sure to ask. If you prefer another to take care of your needs, that can be arranged as well." Sam is given a virtual bell which his avatar can ring to call for the maid to return.

Sam lays his head down on the cool tabletop (He's sitting in a chair at a table, yeah?)) and breathes, focusing on Towers of Hanoi (517 moves down on his 20 disc game) until he can get his breathing under control.
Once he does, he does a matrix perception check to see what there is to do in here, or in the club generally.

There are comfortable sofas in the room along with tables to place your gear on. The room's system contains a wide selection of simsense experiences which require you to go into full VR to enjoy. Examples include a fantasy RPG type adventure, life as a high school student in a harem anime comedy, mecha pilot battles, sentai fantasy, various sports and martial arts, as well as a suite of "adult" selections. Some of them are designed to be enjoyed alone, but most seem to be designed to be shared settings with friends or lovers.

The club itself has the usual dancing and alcohol, though there is also an extensive digital manga collection, darts, billiards, arcade games and a very powerful matrix connection. The speed is far more than most people have in their homes. Since Sam is not most people and spends more on his matrix connection than he does on his home, it is merely adequate.

Sato is a bit miffed at not standing out, but he swallows his pride to project cool confidence.

Today is important, stay sharp he thinks to himself as he nurses the drink and surveys the room.
He knows Rokudenashiko can disguise herself, so he focuses on her height and weight, which are harder to hide.

Unfortunately, the size listed in the report for Rokudenashiko as a fairly common one for Desian women so there are quite a few people in the crowd that roughly fit that description. If she is as good at changing her appearance as Sato suspects, any one of a couple dozen people here could easily be her.

Luckily, Akane is easier to spot as she looks exactly as she did in her photo. Sato sees her as she steps out of the restroom and then turns into the door marked "Simsense".

Sato sends an ARO message to Sam.

"Hi Sam, I hope you've had a chance to acclimate.  I've spotted Akane entering the "Simsense" room ((he marks it on a crude AR map of the club)).  

No sign of Rokudenashiko, yet. Can you see if there's any other matrix icons in that room?

The simsense area consists of a couple dozen private rooms.

Nobunaka strolls up to the bar (close to Sato), orders a drink and turns around to survey the scene, keeping an eye out Akane or any one else of interest.

As he waits for Sam's report, Sato observes the crowd in the club.  

What are the social patterns?  Do most people seem to know each other?  How are they interacting? Do strangers approach strangers or is there familiarity?

The room is filled with people of interest. Every single person here is heavily modded with cyberware, all have at least a datajack and most seem to be carrying around cyberdecks. Some are tattooed, others have their skin and hair color modified by bioware, there are a lot of tails, horns, fangs and other cosmetic mods. Some are more fetish oriented than others.

There is one female who apparently has given remote access to her cybereyes to a nearby male. He pushes a button on his commlink and she is completely blind. He then makes a show of leading her around and allowing anyone who wishes the chance to fondle her body on the way to a booth on the other side of the room.

Another male has what looks to be a kind of implanted collar. Well... more of a ring for a leash that has been reinforced with a metal band so as not to tear out of his throat should someone give it a bit of a tug. A woman in a skimpy leather maid's uniform leads him through the crowd to the simsense room by a leash.

Perhaps the most impressive is a woman who has what appears to have functional bat wings fused to her back. At least, functional in the meaning that they move fairly realistically at any rate. It is doubtful that she would be able to actually fly with them. She wears an eyepatch, and something like a vinyl swimsuit that leaves her back bare so she can properly display her wings. She also has horns, a pointed bioware tail, fangs, horns and eyes that look like those of a snake (at least the one that you can see).

There is no shortage of other interesting characters in the room either.


The people cluster about in groups who seem to know each other. There is quite a bit of PDA happening; mostly kissing and touching, though no nudity is allowed in the main dance floor. Such behavior would be fairly shocking at any other venue, but it seems to be pretty normalized here, much like the mods and tattoos that they sport.

My understanding is matrix icons are kind of a line of sight thing? Sam didn't seem to see any icons when I did a matrix perception in this room, or a host to enter, or anything like that. If my understanding on that is wrong, then Sam will do what he can. (I'm pretty new to Shadowrun specifically, still. And this is my first time playing a decker) Making a matrix perception roll here for the event that my understanding was incorrect))

Sato starts to mingle, focusing on the larger, more social groups with a larger number of females - his plan is to mimic their behavior to get to a place where he finds a partner to take back to the simsense area as cover.  He will probably use ventriloquism or another adept power to impress someone.
