3B - One flew over the cuckoo hut

Sun nods to Ichigo in thanks and goes to the cages, ready to grab his staff and defend anyone if need be.

Sam investigates the strange device.

((Sam doesn't have any related knowledge skill for this, so defaulting to intuition. He actually does amazingly well: 3 successes on 4 dice))

Sam takes a good look at the device. It obviously doesn't have any electronic components to it, so it's pretty far out of his wheelhouse of knowledge. Just judging by where he is, he guesses there is some magic involved in its creation and/or use, though he has no real way of knowing that for sure short of attempting to open it up. There are some suction cups attached to tubes that are meant to be attached to something and a crank that seems to power the device. A test crank causes the suction cups to make an audible slurping sound, but given they are not attached to anything, nothing really happens. On the other side of the machine is something like an alembic, apparently designed to drip out whatever it is the suction cups are meant to extract once the machine itself has managed to process it. There is also a chute in the back that apparently is designed to eject waste material from the process. A bucket lies beneath the chute, ready to collect the waste material. It is currently empty however.

(all it lacks is the waterwheel)

WuJen pokes around the larder, hoping to find some flesh not currently attached to anything living that might feed the ghoul.

"I'm Idealistic, not stupid.  I don't intend to get near the ghoul unless I'm sure it won't attack anyone.  Feeding it is a good start.  I'll offer to kill him to end his suffering before letting him loose out here on us unless I feel he is safe for the time being.  I don't want to leave him in what must be hell for him."

A quick look around the room reveals no meat sitting around. The only meat available for consumption is currently still attached to living beings.

Grant says, "Pretty sure he'd eat you the first chance he got, so no point in feeling sorry for him. This place seems to do weird things to people if they've been here for long enough and ghouls are already just barely a step above rabid dogs as it is."

Sam looks for something long to use to wake up the male elf, but from a safe distance.

Sam remembers that Sun has a stick that should serve the purpose well enough.

Sam takes Sun's staff (presumably out of Sun's hands? Or did Sun leave it around somewhere?). If Sun just allows Sam to take the staff, Sam pokes the elf with it too rouse him.

((since it's his idea, I'll assume Sun volunteers his staff for the procedure))

Sam borrows Sun's staff and gives the elf a little poke before returning the staff to its owner. The elf looks extremely thin, even for an elf, like he's been starved or something. The others in the other cages don't seem to be in such a stage of malnutrition though. They don't look like they've been fattened up or anything, but at least seem to be eating enough to maintain their weight.

The elf slowly looks up at Sam, as if the weight of his own eyelids requires an extraordinary amount of effort to lift. Clearly extremely weakened by his current condition, he does not appear to be able to lift a finger, much less speak.

Unable to offer any particular help at the moment, Sam turns away from the emaciated elf.
"We found Grant and Krista. Now we need to find a way out. According to Snot, we need a map and a necklace. We don't have either. So, we should start looking."
((What is the current configuration of the hut? We're in the jail room with one door that opens to the kitchen, and there is one other, closed, door in the kitchen? Am I missing anything?))

Sam opens a door in the kitchen. Beyond is what appears to be an old fashioned alchemical lab. Tables covered with bottles, burners and various other equipment fill the room. A shelf on one of the walls is filled with potion bottles, each containing a different type of fluid. None of them are labeled. Another shelf has jars filled with ingredients of all sorts. While they are not labeled either, most are pretty easy to identify; bat wings, lizard tails, fingers of some sort, et cetera. Others are a bit harder to identify; some brown dust, black goo, orange paste, and so on.

Sam wanders around the lab, doing a cursory investigation to see if there's anything interesting about this room beyond the above description

The potion bottles could be interesting if one either felt the desire to experiment with them or otherwise knew what they contained. The various strange ingredients around the room, while no doubt useful for creating potions, are of little use to Sam. He will have to step away from the door to examine them more closely. The room itself has 2 doors: the one Sam is currently standing in, and one more.

"Someone hold that door open," Sam says, indicating the door leading into the lab. When someone does, he opens the other door.

Sun keeps the door Sam points to open.

With Sun holding open the door to the lab, Sam opens up the next door. Scratched up furniture, cat toys and the smell of cat fill this room. The four black cats wandering around the room seem to be the reason for all of those things. A goblin in a butler's outfit is yelling at the cats, but they seem to be ignoring him, as cats are wont to do. The room has 4 doors, including the one Sam is standing in.
