3B - One flew over the cuckoo hut

"Are you Grant or Krista?" Sam asks the goblin.

The goblin is somewhat startled by the sudden voice behind him. Turning, he says, "No. I am Phlegm. Phlegm the bath cleaner. I clean the bath. It is a big bath, as you can see, and a full time job."

"We are looking for Grant and Krista," Sam says. "Have you seen them?"

"Grant and Krista?" Plegm asks, "Don't know anyone by those names. But people come through and end up meals for Baba Yaga all the time, so I don't really bother to learn their names any more than I bother naming every fruit I've ever eaten. Do you know what they look like?"

"I do not. They are probably humans, but I have only seen goblins in this hut so far."

(ooc: Apparently I suffer from Phone Phail, as I thought I replied at several points yet do not see my posts now.  Sorry, don't really mean to leave this all up to Sam to solve, though it is kind of his thing)



"Snot, where are the people kept who are to be eaten?  How do they get here?"

In the kitchen

As Sam stands in the doorway talking to Phlegm, Snot says to Wujen, "Baba Yaga catches them usually and takes them to the holding room. Sometimes if you go through that door you end up there. Sometimes you don't." He gestures to the door Sam didn't take.

To Sam, Phlegm says, "Well, then I haven't seen them." He continues cleaning the bath with a brush on a pole.

In the kitchen

Bathroom
To Sam, Phlegm says, "Well, then I haven't seen them." He continues cleaning the bath with a brush on a pole.

"Okay. Thank you," Sam says, and he closes that door. He moves to open the door that Snot indicated may lead to the holding room.
"Keep that door open, Sun," he says before opening this next door.

Sun keeps the door open, hums for a few moments, then looks at Phlegm scrubbing the pool. "Hey miss, what's the pool for? I take it miss Yaga doesn't actually swim?"

Phlegm says, "It's a bath," as the door to the bathroom swings shut and Sam heads to the next door.

"Perhaps it's a cycle. Any given door or room, whatever, connects to a set of other rooms that appear on a schedule or by some trigger. The simplest would be if each time you opened a door you got the next room in the series. More complex would be a system involving triggers, like walking through certain rooms, or opening doors in a certain order. Given she apparently likes puzzles there is likely some logic to it."

Sam opens the second door in the kitchen and it leads to a formal dining room. A large beautiful oak table, capable of seating 12, rests in the center of the room. 12 seats sit around the table, each intricately hand carved by a master artisan. The room looks like it would be ideal for entertaining guests, but it is currently empty. Eight heavy oak doors form exits to the room, one of which Sam is currently standing in.

Sun holds the door open again, until told otherwise.

Sam closes the door, waits about ten seconds, and opens it again.

The door opens to a wine cellar. Dust covered wine racks and casks seem to go on forever in this room. Thousands of bottles of what you assume to be wine rest in the racks. It seems that Baba Yaga is a wine lover. There are no apparent exits other than the one Sam is currently standing in.

"Hmmm interesting"

"More like annoying.  Teleportation is hard.  Using it this way is just showing off.  I don't even think it's teleportation, because if she could use it this casually then she wouldn't need the flying kitchenware and the hut probably would not need legs."

"Far more easy to pull off would be Illusion.  Imagine we were in a structure where the rooms are physically moving like a clockwork mechanism, but the motion of it is masked with illusion magic."

"But again, that would lead us to patterns,  once we find the pattern we should be able to navigate"

Sam closes the door, waits about ten seconds, and opens it again.

"That's a smart assessment"

While Sam is working his magic, Sun goes on to check out the room, looking for anything else besides the table.

Sun examines the kitchen and finds a wide assortment of hopefully mislabeled ingredients, including frog's breath, toe jam, eye fluid, roach paste and various other ingredients you rather not hear about in a kitchen. As he examines the room, the door he was holding open swings shut again.

Meanwhile Sam tries his door again. It opens into the same formal dining room he saw before.

Sam crosses the room to the door that Sun had been holding open and opens it back up, hoping that the foyer will still be there but fearing that they're now hopelessly lost in this chicken hut.

The door appears to open into an alchemical lab. Tables covered with bottles, burners and various other equipment fill the room. A shelf on one of the walls is filled with potion bottles, each containing a different type of fluid. None of them are labeled. Another shelf has jars filled with ingredients of all sorts. While they are not labeled either, most are pretty easy to identify; bat wings, lizard tails, fingers of some sort, et cetera. Others are a bit harder to identify; some brown dust, black goo, orange paste, and so on.

" If it makes you feel better there was no guarantee that the outside door still led outside anymore anyway."

Wujen opens a note application on his commlink, and begins opening and shutting the door that led to the foyer rapidly, noting what the room on the other side looks like each time.  He stops if the foyer reappears.
