3A - To Heir is Human

((I had thought that a sewer snake would just have one, because I would think it's just a good way to explore poo caverns otherwise. The sewer snake might still be useful if it can crawl out of the toilet though? is it capable of that?))

Chougou takes control of the Kanmushi that Sato dropped ((in the hallway I am assuming)) and scurries to the nearest corner that it can conceal itself with.

Carl says, "Ya'll was saying something along them lines when ya'll was at my place last. Let's just say I'll believe it when I sees it. Wouldn't be the first fella to think they came up with a cure only to find out it's just snake oil."

He gives a firm shake of Sato's hand and says, "We'll keep in touch."

((Ok, if I'm counting correctly, Chougou has one kanmushi inside the hotel air vents somewhere, one on the outside of the building and can deploy the sewer snake somewhere that will hopefully be able to make its way into the hotel's sewer system.))

Chougou would like to spend his time using the airduct kanmushi to go explore its surroundings and try to get a feel for how it can climb higher while looking out for security defenses that are inevitable since they definitely aren't the first people to have thought of this. He uses subtle piloting and only makes large strides after examining the area, trying to get to the top floor ducting.

Whenever he feels that the airduct kanmushi is in a good position, at night he guides the outside kanmushi up the building moving very slowly and hiding often. The extra effort and concentration helps him focus his internal terror into something productive, and he is extra vigilant to any threats at the cost of very slow progress.

Sometime in the morning before bed ((this will probably happen after whatever else is going to happen today but I want to mention it with the large gaps between my posts...what time is it now?)) he will go deploy the sewer snake into a toilet around the area and move it into a safe spot before sleeping a little bit. But only after he has found meticulous hiding spots for the kanmushi.

((as far as I know, Sato just had the one drone in that pocket and never got around to putting it in the air vent. He was going to put it there, but changed his mind, then carried it around and was going to put it in the toilet, but didn't. I figure it's the one currently going up the outer wall of the building))

The drone has a long way to go to scale the building, which is the bad news. However, the good news is that it is so tiny that no one would think to notice it physically (though they might notice it's icon if anyone happens to be looking at it through AR). The biggest threat to the kanmushi appears to be birds, which see it as a tasty snack going up the wall, and winds that threaten to blow it from the building's surface to the streets below. Luckily Chougou manages to outmaneuver said birds on his looooooong trek up the building and finds a nice crevice to wedge into and avoid the wind.

By the time Sato is done talking with Carl, it is around 6:30 in the evening. Chougou has spent an hour moving his drone up the building and it's still working its way up. At the rate it is going, its climb is going to take a couple more hours at least.

Cool. Could Chougou also go and try to deploy the sewer snake so that he can take a nap and start working on it as soon as he wakes up? Also Chougou would like to examine the surroundings from where the kanmushi is for anything interesting.

Sato gives Carl a firm handshake and heads back to the hotel.  
 
He picks up the sewer snake and kanimushi from Chougou in the limo and stows it in his faraday pocket in his jacket.

He enters the hotel again ((Torpor feel free to join me)) and sits down at the end of the bar in the lobby.  He makes a friendly, if slightly exhausted smile at the bartender and orders an esoteric drink - one that a bartender would appreciate someone ordering.  

((The plan is to get friendly with the bartender and pump him for information. Hopefully the bar has a good view of the lobby - he is hoping to get a better idea of the security by observing the lobby over a long period of time - e.g. seeing if any incoming guests’ luggage trips any security warnings))

After shaking Sato's hand with his own gloved one, Carl heads into a black pickup truck and drives off. You all then head off to the hotel. By the time you get back, Chougou's drone has made it about halfway up the building. Around the floor he is at, his drone has a fair view of the city and a peek through the window reveals a high-end clothing store.

Sato and Torpor head into the bar and Sato orders the most unusual drink he can think of: hire-zake. The drink involves a blowfish fin that is lit aflame in a cup of sake. Given that only highly trained and licensed chefs can prepare and serve the highly poisonous fish, it is both expensive and requires a special hand. Luckily the bartender has such a hand and hands the flaming drink to Sato. "Here you go, pal," he says, "The greatest delicacy in alcohol, second only to wakamezake." He gives a bit of a chuckle as he adds that last part.

The bartender is a jolly human gentleman in his 50's who looks like he's basically spent his entire life in a bar and has the humor to match. While the image he projects doesn't seem to match the atmosphere of the hotel, his skills are obviously superior.

As the bartender prepares the drink, Sato watches closely with an appreciative eye.  As the bartender sets the drink down in front of him, Sato cocks an eyebrow in appreciation and raises the glass in salute.  
 
"Ah...I have missed being in Desu.  One of my favorite things about our culture is our devotion to perfecting our craft - this sir, is truly a masterpiece of alcohol."

Sato sits for a few moments, enjoying the drink - occasionally observing the people come in and out of the hotel through the lobby.

The majority of the drink preparation comes in the form of carefully cutting the blowfish fin. Once that is done, it is pretty much just a matter of dropping it in and setting it on fire. A sip of the concoction quickly warms the body, both from the alcohol and the warmth of the drink itself. "Domo," the bartender says with a polite bow, "Can I get you anything else? Something for your bodyguard perhaps? And before you ask, the wakamezake thing was a joke. I won't be serving that here. Though I suppose if you wanted room service, it could probably be arranged in your room if you threw enough money at the hotel."

After Chougou looks up wakamezake, he feels a little funny...

Chougou checks on his sewer snake if it has been deployed and explores more with the kanmushi on the side of the building.

After a reasonable length of time enjoying his drink and observing the lobby, Sato places his coaster on top of the drink and heads to the bathroom.  Once there, he goes into a stall to loudly blow his nose, removes the sewer snake (carrying the Kanmushi) from the Faraday pocket and drops it into the toilet.  He closes the lid but does not flush.

The bartender watches as Sato leaves abruptly and says to Torpor, "I guess when you gotta go, you gotta go, eh?"

The snake is sitting in a toilet when Chougou checks in on it. It is ready to begin exploring the pipes.

Very cautiously, the sewer snake begins to explore the pipes keeping an eye out for traps as they must be in here for security Chougou thinks paranoidly.

Security apparently didn't think to secure the pipes, not that they really could as sensors would get set off every time someone flushed the toilet if they did. The sewer snake has no problem moving through the pipes, but it is a bit of a maze that goes to every bathroom in the building. Based on the signal, Chougou can more or less tell what floor the sewer snake is and through trial and error slowly makes his way up the pipes. It takes a lot longer than he intended, but eventually the sewer snake comes out at a toilet on the penthouse floor. Someone is currently using it though and, judging by the consistency, they appear to have stomach issues. The brown liquid stream rains down on the sewer snake, coating sensors and generally making a mess of the drone. It will need some sanitizing after this.

Eventually the user finishes up, activating the built in bidet followed by the built in bottom dryer. The drone slips back into the pipes when the toilet is flushed, but grips in place so as not to get lost. Hopefully this is the place.

Chougou checks on the kanmushi and tries to make its way to a window that would let it see the penthouse.

By the time Chougou has maneuvered the sewer snake to where he hopes is the penthouse, the kanmushi has made its way up the building. Between the height of the mountain and the building itself, the kanmushi is currently well above the clouds, which is a little vertigo-inducing. There are no birds up this high, so it's a bit easier to move around without getting the drone eaten. He peeks in through the penthouse window. The penthouse takes up most of the top floor, with large luxurious rooms perfect for someone who wants privacy or someone who is planning on having guests. The kanmushi is currently looking into one of the bedrooms, though it can see there are doors to other rooms and a walk to other windows could probably reveal them. There are signs of the room being in use such as an unmade bed, an open suit case and a trideo which is currently on, but no one is obviously visible at the moment.

Over comms Torpor says, " Did she mention that the current person in the penthouse requested some sort of magical protection when talking about services available."

Sato returns to the bar and looks at Torpor.  "Don't you bodyguards ever get thirsty?  Have a drink with me - this place is so secure, I bet no one has ever even tried anything."
He winks at the bartender if he's in earshot.

Via DNI message he sends "she mentioned that it is an option and they have humored some very exotic requests from some previous clients of the penthouse.  I believe one "exotic security" was a basan"

The bartender says, "Should I get one for him?" as he indicates the drink that Sato previously ordered.

When prompted about break ins, he says, "Not really. Occasionally we get the random paparazzo who wants to snap a holo of one of the guests, but they are always escorted off the premises. We've never gotten any REAL criminals or the like up here. Break-ins are for poor people with poor security. We don't let any suspicious people bother our guests."

Sato has vaguely heard of a basan. It's some kind of fire breathing chicken or something, he thinks.

Sato straddles his old seat at the corner of the bar and finishes the last of his drink.
  
"He's his own man, he can decide himself.  I'll have a Sazerac."  
  
He watches the bartender make it, occasionally letting his eyes wander around the lobby to see if anything interesting is happening (or if he can spot more security features now that he has a bit more time to observe).

The bar is in the bottom floor of the hotel and as far as Sato can tell, security down here is generally pretty lax. The bar and restaurant here are open to the public so there is little more than cameras and discrete security staff. He assumes security is more of an issue on higher floors.

Nothing in particular catches his eye as overly interesting. People sitting around, drinking, eating and having a good time. There are clearly far more people here than the number of hotel rooms can really support so a good number of them must just be here to come to the restaurant. Judging by their attire, they all seem to be well to do, with fancy clothing, expensive jewelry and the like. There are no obvious trouble makers to be found, that is for sure.
