Spelunking

Kin takes note of the topography around him as it relates to the church, specifically how close they are and whether the area between the lake and church is open or provides cover.

Sun wonders what King Cobra needs a tunnel to that church for.
"Hey Kin, what do you think King Cobra needed a tunnel to this church for?"

Kin paused, looked to the sky and then spoke.

"Yeah, I know about it, probably more than most. I don't want this getting around. If we can keep this between us, I'll tell you some things. Things I've kept to myself for years."

Kin tells his story.

"I grew up in that church. I guess you could call me a member, though that's a lot to put on a little kid. More, I guess, my parents were members.

It isn't so much a church as something else. A cult? A compound? I don't have much to compare it to. I haven't set foot in a church since I left there, but I wouldn't think most churches have an active sector that is given weapon training. They do. They're training a militia. How do you think I got to be such an accurate shot? Years of training is how.

I wouldn't think most churches keep certain members prisoners. They do. They told me my parents were killed in an automobile crash when I was little. As I grew older, I knew it was rubbish. Remember when I first arrived at the Community Center I was asking about my parents? Maybe you don't, but that's why. I knew they weren't dead. I just found out they were held somewhere on the property for years. My dad is still there. My mom wasn't so lucky."

Kin's voice is getting louder and more animated.

"You ask me what I know? I know I want them to pay for everything they did to me. I want revenge. I escaped when I was in my teens and my hatred of that place has grown little by little every single day. The key to that revenge is at the church. I know it."

Kin pauses to settle down and slow his breathing, looking at the shocked expression on Sun's face.

"Thank you. I haven't ever told anyone what I've just told you. It feels good to say it out loud. Like a burden lifted. Though, you're probably sorry you asked."

Kin finishes with a smile on his face as he wipes a sleeve across his eyes. He's not sure why he feels comfortable talking to Sun about this, but he does.

Sun listens to Kin's story, wondering if he actually asked for this. It's making him very uncomfortable, and he's wondering what to do in situations like this. Then it dawns on him: You get away as fast as possible without causing more drama! To do so, Sun places his hand on Kin's shoulder.
"It's ok, buddy. They'll get what's coming to them eventually. Let's just go for now."

Kin sees Sun squirming and tapping one foot.

"Sounds good. Thanks for listening. I know you didn't ask for this and it's probably more than you expected to hear."

Sun shakes his head vigorously, maybe a bit too much, his beard waving left and right, and urges Kin to start moving. When both arrive back at the Cobra base, they collect the Westwind and make like a tree.

As they drive away, Kin figures Sun could do with a change of topic.

"Hey Sun, with all the stuff I'm collecting, I think I'm outgrowing my place. Do you know who I need to talk to about getting a room at the Community Center?"
