Mission 2a - What's New Pussycat?

"Okay," Sam messages to the group. "Seems like we've run through our good options. If no one else has any smart ideas for how to proceed, I guess it's time to start on the not so good options, and work our way to bad options."
Sam gets to work hacking the people with hidden icons. Start with one of the short haired ones whose data jacks we can see.

((I wouldn't make the assumption that anyone is out of the picture - Roku is a master of disguise and we're basically in Asia here so similar builds are possible for both sexes))

Sato is trying to keep an eye on all 5 suspects, but if he has to prioritize, he will focus on those identified by Sam as having hidden icons.

Short haired person number one's commlink falls before Sam's killer code. He quickly finds there are no cybereyes connected to it's PAN.

Though Sam makes a good attempt at the commlink's defenses, he happens to get caught in a random scan and his attempt fails, setting off a security alarm on the commlink that causes the messenger bag it is located in to vibrate across the counter it is sitting on. ((Sam receives 1 mark)) The owner of said commlink pulls a cable out of his messenger bag and plugs it into his datajack to check on why it is suddenly buzzing.

"Keep a close watch on that one," Sam messages to Sato.

Sam manages to erase the mark just in time. The guy looks around, trying to figure out what happened.

Sam gives Sato a chance to try perceiving that person's eyes before either attempting to hack him again or else moving on to the next person.

To avoid attracting attention, Sato keeps his head still but raises his eyes to glance at the target looking around. He concentrates in identifying the eyes for cyber augmentation, award of the knowledge that Roku has models advanced enough to change color and blend.


Mental limit 5, so I keep all successes.

The man's gaze moves quickly so it is quite difficult to get a real good look at the eyes, particularly from the distance Sato is. He luckily thinks he notices a bit of a reflective glare for just the briefest of moments as the light hits the man's eyes just right. It could of course just be his imagination, but he's about 70% sure that this person has cybereyes.

Sato attempts to subtly message Sam and the group.  

“Possible positive match on target #2.  I’m not completely sure so Sam, are you up for another go at him? We should also check out the other 3, just to be sure.”

Sato starts evaluating different paths for target #2 to an available exit and what his intercept path would be.  He will recommend Nobu and Tetsu be aware that something may go down soon.

Sam manages to get into the commlink and mark it, though it's owner is now fully jacked in, on the alert and spots Sam's icon, responding with an attack of viral code. The attack is successful, marking Sam's icon with an image of a vagina and causing his deck to smell vaguely of burning hardware. ((3 matrix damage to your deck, 1 mark.))

Sato waits for Sam’s signal that this is the target.
Once he receives it, he nonchalantly walks down the row of pachinko machines and when he passes Roku’s location he uses Nerve Strike (adept power) to paralyze her via reducing her reaction.

Sato is counting on the cacophony of noise to cover up his approach.
If he’s successful and the target slumps to the ground, he will catch her and act like a concerned passer-by.

"That's her," Sam messages to Sato. "Give Nobu a physically description so he can grab her when she gets out the door."

Sam makes a brute force attack for another mark (and matrix damage)

Round 1, phase 1
Sam and the hacker clash at the same time, slinging viral code at each other through the matrix. Sam just barely manages to hit his target as his foe rips back at him. The damage is not substantial, but Sam finds his system stuck with 2 additional marks. ((2 matrix damage))

Meanwhile Sato walks over to the suspect's already unconscious form and does a Xena poke at her shoulder. It is noisy at the pachinko parlor and he doesn't exactly make much in the way of noise in performing his maneuver, but he is standing in the middle of a public place where any one of many eyes might potentially notice him doing his poke. Luckily for him, no one is paying enough attention to notice, or at least if they notice no one seems to respond. However, since she is unconscious already, it is unclear how successful his strike was at paralyzing her. She does not make any indication of having noticed the strike at all.

((Sorry for the direct approach - Nobu and Tetsu’s players haven’t been around for a while and I figured Sato would have the best chance if he struck while she was distracted.  I failed to notice she was in VR so I’m feeling a bit unsportsmanlike, but w/e)).
 

Now that he’s next to her, Sato unplugs her data cable from the cyberdeck ((dumpshock may do what magic fingers do not)) and observes his target more closely - are there signs of disguise?  (Prosthetics, heavy makeup on a man?)

Nobu has been posted up near the door, pretending to read the news on his commlink but really keeping an eye out.

Comm to others: "It seems like we're going to be dragging her unconscious body out of here, one way or another, best case scenario. Sato, unless you've got a stealthier plan, I think it's time for quick and dirty. One of you just grab her and send the limo to pick you up."
